It is very easy to do a self guided tour here. The ramps to the top are wide though some are steep. The weather is hot and humid so pace yourself and bring water. We enjoyed it.

Visited this fort on a weekday evening at sunset (fort entrance closes at 6 pm). Can walk around and through a couple of tunnels with steep stairs. No information in English. There’s a small gift store at the top but no water or refreshments, so it’s better to carry your own. There are restrooms at the top. It’s not a hard walk up if you are reasonably fit. The view of the tall buildings in one side, the walled city on the other and the Caribbean Sea in front is very picturesque.

The fort is pretty remarkable. The history of it is fascinating. I went with tour with a guide named Demas through Nexperience (AirBnB Experiences). He was awesome, spent a lot of time explaining in detail and answering a lot of questions. Definitely knows his stuff. His English was perfect.

Lovely views of the city from the fort. Panels do a good job of explaining the features of the fortifications. Stairs and slopes are steep, bring good shoes and not for mobility challenged people. Some shade is available but mostly out in the sun. Some guides are available for extra fees. Conservation of the site is excellent for the age. Lots of security on site and cabs available right outside.

I spent about two hours exploring the tunnels, passageways, and viewpoints. The architecture is incredible. The view points overlooking Cartagena was just breathtaking. If you enjoy history and breath taking views, I totally recommend it !
